What is the purpose of the free initial telephone consultation ?I offer an brief telephone consultation prior to arranging private counselling for various reasons. Firstly, to get an overview of the difficulties that the client is currently experiencing. Secondly, to ensure that I am the right private therapist for them. If patients appear to be suitable for therapy I then offer them a first appointment.
OK. So how do I arrange this?Drop me a brief email at help@drjoel.co.uk. Ideally provide a couple of times of day when you would be free to speak and a good number to reach you on.
What are your session fees as a private therapist?Private therapy and counselling sessions are charged at £150 per 50 minute session.
Do you accept clients funded via insurance?Yes. I am registered with the major insurance companies.

Can I be seen by you right away?In the majority of cases, I can offer new clients a first appointment within a week. Indeed, seeing a private therapist means you will almost certainly avoid waiting-list systems so commonly found in the NHS.
How long is a private therapy session? Each private counselling session takes approximately 50 minutes.
What do evidence-based psychological therapies refer to?Simply put, evidence-based treatments are those therapies which have been scientifically tested and shown to be effective. Whilst traditional cognitive behavioural treatments are probably the best examples of these, there are other therapies available that have demonstrated effectiveness such as ACT.
How many sessions of private therapy will I need? The number of sessions required depends on many factors including the nature, severity and chronicity of the presenting problem (s), motivation to change, environmental factors as well whether the client is able to make time to carry out "homework" / "between session work" practice. I usually recommend 8-20 sessions.
What type of psychological therapy will I need? This very much depends on the outcome of the psychological assessment. I will advise you on the best therapy for you following the assessment phase and we can then discuss treatment options.

What kind of people do you see in your private therapy clinic?People from all walks of life can benefit from seeking counselling at a private therapy clinic such as mine. I have worked with bankers, lawyers, ex-pats, stay-at-home mum, ex-veterans, architects and more. I love helping people to get unstuck from their problems and move forwards in their lives.
I have some further questions....No problem. Just email me and give me a call on 0203 637 6239 and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
