During the first few sessions (the assessment phase) I will explore with you the different aspects of your situation . This helps me to get a thorough picture of the difficulties you are encountering. I will help you to consider how your problems developed and what factors seem to be keeping them going.
We will then explore whether your current ways of coping with difficult feelings are helping or hindering you. We will map out the problem cycles as a diagram and use this 'psychological formulation' to consider what needs changing. This then leads us to develop your treatment plan. Generally, the assessment phase takes two sessions and psychological therapy takes around 10-20 weekly sessions. Length of therapy depends on a number of things including complexity, severity and chronicity of the problems experienced . All sessions are of course entirely confidential. |
